Here's your yearly The Big Short. It seems like there's always one movie like this nominated, except this one isn't nearly as annoying. I even found this movie to be funny on occasion. The interesting thing is I feel like you don't really get a sense of the character of Dick Cheney, they admit at the beginning of the film that they can't really say how much of this movie is fact, which I appreciate. That, and the fact that he's a real person, not a written character makes this study really interesting. They don't really paint him out to be a bad guy, they just let the facts that we do have do the talking. I like what they did here.

This is what Bohemian Rhapsody could have been. A Star Is Born isn't great, but it's got heart and it's got talent. There's a lot of weird pacing and mood things, especially with the ending. I do find the story and performances interesting, especially Lady Gaga and I wonder how much of this story is actually based on her career. The music does help this movie, I really liked most of it. Overall, a little cheesy, a little silly but it's nice.

I had no intent to see this movie, but here we are, back again questioning what the fuck has happened to the film industry that this is apparently one of the best movies of the year. The upside is everyone has seen this, so now I get to have an opinion. I thought this would be yet another boring, passable, run-of-the-mill biopic. Well it is, but I guess I forgot that I f u c k i n g h a t e those. The lack of creativity, the lack of feeling, it's actually insulting. There was one singular moment where I felt an emotion was touched upon. One moment where I got an idea of the true melancholy that Freddy Mercury's life must have been. Must have been a mistake to let that get through.
Now I will share a few notes I took during the film.
"this is our new lead singer Freddy... uh.. Bulsara"
-crowd reacts weirdly because apparently this name is unacceptable-
Freddy has trouble with the mic stand because obviously we must explain the way he always had a stand attached to his microphone
Mike Myers just said Bohemian Rhapsody will never be a song that teenagers get in their cars and bang their heads to. Art is dead.
All the trappings you expect from a biopic shipped off to a studio director. Like, do you think just because we have a guy that looks like Freddy Mercury and we have the ability to do the makeup effects showing his degrading health over time, that that is a good enough reason to make this movie? This was no one's passion project. This is the epitome of a studio film. "Hey let's make a shitty biopic about Freddy Mercury" That is literally all of the thought behind this. Does that not just scream "Best Picture" to you?
Whether you fall into this category or not I do believe this movie's audience is mouthbreathing simpletons who squeal with excitement when they understand a reference.
