September 28th
Directed by: Adam Wingard
It's hard to ignore the source material on this one. When you think about all the great stuff that was in the books and how little of it made it into this movie, it's shameful. But at the same time it is such a departure that it's easy for me to accept that they just wanted to make a completely new story with the idea of a notebook that kills people. Which is a shame in itself. I don't know why we can't just actually adapt something. It always has to be changed for "western audiences". Western audiences being stupid people I guess.
Looking at this movie on it's own I can honestly say it's fun. It's no work of art but it definitely gets better as it goes on, leading to an honestly thrilling climax. The main character / lead actor gets a lot of shit but I think it was an interesting idea and the actor did a great job portraying it. People are just mad that it's nothing like the source material. Understandably so. If you're looking for a faithful adaptation, this is not it. This is nothing close to it. You likely will not get that ever. If you're looking to waste 90 minutes on Netflix, you could do a lot worse very easily.
