May 13th Directed by: Junichi Mori Like no other feature film that I've seen before, but quite a lot like some YouTube videos. This sounds like the beginning of a scathing review but I promise you I love this movie. This may be the ultimate food movie if you were to look at the raw data, 90% of what you see in this movie is the preparation, cultivation, planning, cooking, cleaning, farming of food. The process of inspiration to execution, this whole film is actually structured in recipes. It looks a lot nicer than your average cooking video too, I swear Japanese filmmakers just have cinematography figured out to the point that it can be a little cold and manufactured, but it's a science of what's pleasing to the eye and this film succeeds. In between the recipes there are small glimpses of the character's past life and what brought her to the present, which reminds you you're watching a narrative film and are welcome when they come. I can't really say enough about this movie, I think it's just delightful. Downloaded.
